“Children come into our shelter all year long in need of school supplies. Thankfully we have donors, such as Assurant, who are so generous to equip us so we can equip these kids whenever they come.” - Dan Doty

Assurant Employee Benefits’ employees and their children celebrated “Bring Your Child to Work Day” by stuffing more than 1,200 backpacks with notebooks, pencils and other school supplies for the Mission.
The backpacks and school supplies are donated by Assurant Employee Benefits employees, who more than doubled their original goal of providing 400 backpacks to children in need.
Last year, the Mission provided approximately 1,500 backpacks filled with supplies. Our goal is to provide 1,800 backpacks this year!
The ‘Bag Stuffing’ event was held Thursday, April 22, 2010, at the Assurant Employee Benefits’ office located at 2323 Grand Boulevard in Kansas City.
Assurant supports the local community through financial contributions, volunteerism and material donations whenever possible, and the City Union Mission is grateful for their giving spirit. “Bring Your Child to Work Day” is a great opportunity for local companies to provide a way for their employees to teach their children that giving back is an important part of a company’s culture, as well as a value that each individual can embrace.
The City Union Mission is overwhelmed with the generosity of Assurant and their employees. “To see a group of people step-up and embrace such a need as this in our community -- well, it encourages many to want to do more.” said City Union Mission Executive Director, Daniel J. Doty.
