School Supplies Interviewer/Office Assistant -

Volunteering during School Supplies:

Have the opportunity to share the Gospel of Christ with families, while assisting with each step of the application process.  July 25 thru August 17, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 pm;  August 19-27, 12:30 p.m. 4:00 p.m.

Office Assistants must be MAAC trained. (training dates TBD and will be provided by MAAC)

Saturday Recreation Assistant-VYC -

Have a part in meeting spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of children by rewarding them for good behavior in Shelter Chapel.  Coordinate, facilitate, and supervise gym games and game room.

School Supplies Childcare Provider -

Need 1 Adult per day July 28th to August 17th, 18+ years old. 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Enable parents to complete the interview process and hear the Gospel without distraction. Supervise Childcare Assistants.  Provide supplies for the day (i.e. videos, sit-down games, art projects, books, Bible stories).

School Supplies Client Guide -

Need 2-3 per day, 16+ years old; July 26th - August 17, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Assist with client flow, greeting and taking clients from one station to the next.

School Supplies Childcare Assistant -

Need 2 per day, 14+ years old.  July 28-August 17, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Assist Child Care Provider with care and entertainment of children while parents are completing their interview process.

Fitness and Nutrition Instructor -

Man needed to train men in nutrition and physical fitness, promoting healthy lifestyle disciplines and choices. Provide fitness and nutrition instruction, developing a health plan and program, implementation and oversight of program.

Chaplain's Assistant - Men's Shelter -

To assist the Chaplain in coordinating the daytime chapel services and other efforts to assist guests in their spiritual development. Once a week for 3-6 hours, for one year. Mon. – Sat., 6:00 a.m. to noon

Qualifications:
* Christian man, preferably with pastoral experience.
* Solid understanding of the Scriptures and biblical principles.
* Some experience with counseling people out of the Scriptures.
* Good computer/record-keeping skills.
* Ability to be creative and adapt while responding to occasional awkward or difficult situations.

Responsibilities:
* Coordinate and greet chapel providers.
* Fill in as chapel speaker when chapel providers fail to show.
* Conduct new-guest spiritual assessment.
* Maintain appearance and orderliness of the chapel and prayer room.
* Seek to exemplify Jesus Christ daily, being prepared to share the Gospel and encouragement as opportunities arise.

Clothing Room Assistant -

Organize donated clothes and distribute them to Christian Life Program clients or to over night shelter guests, while engaging the men in Godly conversation.
One-year commitment, one day per week.  Mon. 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., Thur. 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., or Sat. 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Qualifications:
* Must be a Christian
* Good organizational skills
* Data entry/computer skills
* Good people skills, relates well
* Good record keeping skills

Responsibilities:
* Issue clothing to Christian Life Program men and over-night guests
* Keep clothing room neat, orderly, and well-stocked
* Keep accurate records of clothing received and disbursed
* Create clothing orders for thrift stores
* Engage clients in Godly conversation

Driver for Men's Ministry Clients -

To assist City Union Mission staff by transporting Men’s Ministry clients to appointments that are critical to their progress through the recovery process, such as court dates, doctors appts., job interviews, etc).

One year commitment.  At least one or two days a week or on-call status.

Serving weekly:  Monday-Friday.  Times will vary, usually 8:00-4:00 availability.

VYC Summer Day Camp Captain -

Coordinate volunteer team to provide a safe, fun, purposeful City Camp program for shelter and community kids. Mon - Fri 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

School Supplies Pantry Worker -

July 28th - August 27th, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Need 1 Adult per day, or 1 Adult and 1 child 12+ years old.

Fill orders for food from our pantry, and restock shelves when necessary.

School Supplies Care Handler -

ATTENTION Large Groups and/or MEN:

A great opportunity for men's groups and/or large groups.

Need to be capable of climbing up and down stairs and carrying boxes. Assist in one or both of the following:

Load truck with remaining school supplies at Family Center (1310 Wabash) and unload at Lexington 2nd Chance Thrift Store (2301 Lexington) for storage.  The more men the less time it takes to get done.

School Supplies Supply Packer -

August 6th - 17th, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm

Need 5 per day.  16 years old and up. 

Fill backpacks with school supplies to meet grade level requirements.  Location: Family Center gym

School Supplies Distribution Day -

Need 6 volunteers from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Hand out filled backpacks to children.  Have the incredible joy of seeing smiling faces as the children receive their new school supplies. (Family Center Gym).

Clean the Camp -

DO YOU LIKE TO CLEAN?  IF SO, WE HAVE THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY.

August 7th we need 10 - 15 volunteers to clean staff and camper quarters, wash linens and tidy the camp.  All supplies are provided.  Lunch is not provided.  This is a great opportunity for churches and other large groups.

Camp CUMCITO Bus Attendants -

We need 10 to 20 bus attendants.  Volunteers for this need to be at least 16 years of age.  For Saturday Bus Attendants, this volunteer position is an excellent teachable moment to talk to children about their experience at camp, to sing songs, and discuss what they learned at chapel or devotions.   For Monday Bus Attendants, this volunteer position can involve leading the children in singing, or lead them in discussing which Camp activities they are looking forward to, and maybe to get them to discuss their understanding of spiritual questions.

For Monday opportunities, Bus Attendants need to be at the Family Center at 1310 Wabash at 7:30 am and will returning to the Family Center by 3:30 pm.

For Saturday opportunites, Bus Attendants need to be at the Family Center at 1310 Wabash at 7:00 am and will be returning to the Family Center by 1:00 pm.

Carnival at Junior Camp - July 30 -

Need 3 to 5 helpers to set-up, tear down, and run booths for Junior Camp on Friday, July 30, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  If your group is interested in planning and operating this event, please give Tammy Sharp a call at 816-329-1487 or by email at core@cumission.org

Share-A-Meal/Bring and Serve -

Two exciting ways to minister to the homeless!  You can:

  • Share-A-Meal:  Serve a meal of food provided by our kitchen (if you want, you can assist in preparing the meal):
    • Pay for 300 guests at the Men’s Center to eat dinner ($600), bring 10-20 people to serve, and listen to the powerful testimony of a guest and adopt them in prayer!
    • Pay for 100 guests at the Family Center to eat dinner ($200), bring 8-18 people to serve, and listen to the powerful testimony of a guest and adopt them in prayer!

                      OR

  • Bring and Serve:  Bring a meal your family, church, business or other organization has prepared and serve it to the homeless.
